it would be nice to have an alert on the boards when there are new posts to it but with out subscribing to the topic so you don't have to go through and look at every thing when there actually hasn't been any new posts added to the particular topic in the lists of boards.

Problem, as I see it, if I haven't been on for three days, and you've just signed on again after fifteen minutes, what's new for me is not new for you.

Maybe I'm not understanding what you want to do.

I agree with what Bob said.
also, after the topic title, the next line says when the last post was made, and who it was made by. so, if you know what the current time is in your area, that might be an easy way for you to tell if you've already read the last post, or not.
that's the method I use, and I find it works quite well.

Also, on the topic you like subscribe. That way you'll get an email when something is posted.
When you get tired of following that board unsubscribe.

Wayne, the OP said that he/she doesn't wanna have to subscribe to topics, in her first post.

Yep, but that is how it works best.

I always jump to "topics with new posts." simple and great feature. :)

what i think she is wanting to have is to be able to skim threw the topics without having to click on them to see if there are any new posts. so maybe it could say something like
unread posts
witht the title and last to post information before you click to open it.
I can tell if I read anything because I go to the topics with new post cattogory and I can tell in there with the order of things if there is any new information.

Sure, but that only work if something was setup up for her specific sign on. We already have it after you click on the post, so maybe it could be moved to the front page.
I can see the post by skipping and I remember who posted last or how many post, so I don't find the current setup a problem.

Here's another things. All the newest boards come first on the list when you are skipping through themif you use the feature one poster talked about.

I remember who last posted to what, as well, especially if it's a topic of interest to me.

Ya, I'm not exactly sure what is being asked for here and think we may already have enough similar tools to do it. Feel free to clarify though.

Personally, I never subscribe to board posts and find it quite easy to tell if I have already seen the most recent post on a topic. There are a number of ways to do this, and I don't see any point in making more ways. Just pay attention to the date and/or time you last read a board and who the last poster was. I also find the feature for going to the first unread post helpful. Really, there are so many ways it couldn't be much easier.
